I've seen a few of the PRC minority musicals made in the late 50s and early 60s and really liked them: Five Golden Flowers, Ashima, and Third Sister Liu.
And then there's Song of Orchid Island with Cheng Pei-pei as a glowing, sun-kissed aboriginal Taiwanese girl!
