An extreme rarity itself, I must express my heartfelt gratitude to the courtesy of Roth for his kindness to share this photo.
I still recalled When I first saw it about a year ago, I was simply stunned and speechless, something beyond words was captured in it, that enchanted me and curiousify me.
It is not solely about the great quality, the angle, the Eurasian charm, the size and the styling of it, but there was something more in depth till the spiritual level as if Hsia Hou Lan conveyed to me through her determindedly dignified and magneticly sexy gaze,as though she was saying:
"Look at me Dev, that's me, Lemniski Helen Hsia, I am what I am, and I shall never regret!"
It was funny and bizzare though, probably you think that I'm insane or somekind of freak, but I somehow feel like becoming a psychic medium, establishing a certain connection with the unexplained aura of this photo, and I'm just telling how i felt in a sincere manner.
For those who might aware of my previous post about Hsia Hou Lan, you would learn about her rise and fall, as well as her loyal love and commitment to Yu Cong, that really touched me profoundly.
Most of her films are persumably lost, and the only one that is available in DVD is Forbidden Tales of Two Cities (1975), directed by Li Han Hsiang.
Most probably her last feature with in silver screen, her status has remain unknown nowadays.

I understood from Dave earlier that HKFA did hold a copy of Burning Passion (1956), and of course this going to be my compulsary must see in the upcoming visit to Hong Kong!

Hsia Hou Lan has all the criterias to be a first class actress, her only setback is her Eurasian look.
As what the fanzines reported those days, Hou Lan was too "European" for the middle class audience...what a great pity.
Her unfulfilled dream could only be filled in some years later by Jenny Hu, arguably the most successful Eurasian actress of all time.

I'm afraid I have no idea at all,
the last report about her i seen dated back to late 1970s, Hsia Hou Lan was crying and sobbing beside Yu Cong, who was so fragile and skinny at that time

As it happens the only movie with Hsia Hou Lan I have seen is "Forbidden Tales of Two Cities" which will take a second look since I barely remember it--which happens when one watches two movies a day for a few months which is what I was doing then.
